By Amber, on May 31st, 2010% Italian sunglasses: $1 each
Fill the pools, light the grill, and wear white clothing. It’s Memorial Day, which means it’s the official kickoff of summer and time to take advantage of great sales! I absolutely love this time of year. Poolside parties, backyard BBQs, and a long days in the sun can’t be beat. I also love Memorial Day because it provides a valid excuse to go shopping!

By Amber, on May 29th, 2010% I have always adopted pets from local humane societies and animal shelters. Which means I’ve always had special pets. I know everyone thinks their pet is special (and they’re right!), but an adopted pet is extra special because, more often than not, you’re saving a life.

By Amber, on May 28th, 2010% Last month, I stood at the finish line of the Horsetooth Half Marathon and watched as my best friend completed the race. She had a huge smile on her face as we cheered her to the finish line. We high-fived her as she passed and gave her hugs after she finished. Successfully finishing a 13.1 mile race takes a lot of work! She was stoked. I was jealous.
My legs ached to run. I kept thinking, I want that to be me! I want to run a half marathon! The excitement of race day got the wheels in my head . . . → keep reading
By Amber, on May 27th, 2010% Did you know a blog has a carbon footprint?
i heart colorado is joining the Make it Green! program to help reduce carbon dioxide emissions of blogs. Yes, even blogs have a carbon footprint. I monitor my personal carbon footprint, so why not that of my blog?
Christin Gericke of this German-based initiative writes:
“Our goal is to contribute our part in reducing the carbon footprint by raising awareness of the severe environmental damage caused by carbon emissions. [...] A blog with 15,000 visits a month has a yearly carbon dioxide emissions of eight pounds. To neutralize these emissions we . . . → keep reading
By Amber, on May 26th, 2010% This morning, I read this article in the Denver Post and completely feel in love with the featured store. In Season Local Market, located at 3210 Wyandot Street in the Denver Highlands, sells only local foods grown and made within a 250 mile radius of the store. Their motto? “If it’s not from here, it’s not in here.” I love it!
While I have not personally visited the store, the locals quoted in the article are very convincing. And I tend to trust the opinions of locals. How can we go wrong with a local store providing only local products? . . . → keep reading
By Amber, on May 24th, 2010% Since 2008, the term “staycation” has become increasingly popular among frugal American travelers – and with do cause. As the end of 2007 marked the beginning of our financial crisis, 2008 brought many changes to the way Americans travel. Lavish trips across the globe, even across the country, became out of reach for many a hopeful traveler. Finding work, putting food on the table, and paying the bills climbed the priority ladder over a relaxing vacation. So, what is a weary, in-need-of-a-vacation-getaway, yet outwardly frugal traveler to do? I’ll tell you!
My husband, Ian, and I love to travel. During . . . → keep reading

As this week is American Craft Beer Week, I decided a celebration of local beer was in order. The sun was out and summer seems to be peeking around the corner, so it felt like the perfect day for a beer tasting. Thus, I grabbed Ian and we headed over to Odell Brewing Co. in Fort Collins. Surprisingly, I’ve never before visited Odell. Sure, I’ve enjoyed my fair share of 90 Shilling and Easy Street, but I had never set foot in their Tap Room. About darn time if I do say so myself!
