By Amber, on June 28th, 2010% This past weekend was the 21st Annual Colorado Brewer’s Festival. As you can probably tell from previous posts, Ian and I are all about local beer. So we decided to show our support by volunteering with the festival this year!
Brewfest 2010!
We signed up to pour beer in the first session on Saturday (I’ll explain the whole session thing in a bit). Saturday morning, we checked in with the festival directors, got our awesome blue Brewfest volunteer T-shirt, and chose the brewery with whom we wanted to volunteer. I wanted to pour beer for a new . . . → keep reading
By Amber, on June 27th, 2010% I’ll get to my training update in a minute – first, I have a bone to pick with all cyclists who ride on a trail: let me know you’re coming! It’s really not difficult to call out “on your left” to give runners, walkers, and other cyclists a heads up.
While coming out from a tunnel underpass along the Spring Creek Trail, I had the crap scared out of me when a rider went whizzing by on my left without so much as a “passing.” I had no idea he was coming. Calling out a pass is as much about . . . → keep reading
By Amber, on June 25th, 2010% Visiting Boulder always feels like a homecoming of sorts. Both Ian and I completed our undergrad at the University of Colorado in Boulder, and, therefore, were fortunate to live in Boulder for nearly three years!

I just love going back to visit my good ol’ college town. Boulder is absolutely one-of-a-kind. I think you either love it or hate it; there’s really no in between. Obviously, I happen to love it! If I could even remotely afford to live in Boulder, I’d move back in a heartbeat. Alas, the cost of living isn’t getting any cheaper. So . . . → keep reading
By Amber, on June 22nd, 2010% Disc golf seems to be overtaking my husband’s life. Since we now live within walking distance of a disc golf course, Ian plays the game at least once a day! He’s actually quite good from all this practice. And now he has a nice collection of discs. I gave disc golf a try, and my very first toss ended up in a tree only two feet in front of me. Then it took me nearly 10 throws to get the disc anywhere near the chain basket (the “hole”). As I’ve said many times before, I’m overly competitive and really don’t . . . → keep reading
By Amber, on June 21st, 2010% Remember when you were a kid and candy was the most exciting treat ever. It seems like as we grow older, candy becomes less idyllic and more commercial. I remember ripping dots off the wax paper, stuffing my mouth with as much Big League chew as could possibly fit, and “smoking” candy cigarettes. Those were the days. *Sigh*
Inside Powell's Sweet Shoppe.
Well, now I can reminisce whenever I want! Powell’s Sweet Shoppe in Boulder offers all the delightful treats from years past right in the store! It’s like walking down memory lane, no matter how old you are. . . . → keep reading
By Amber, on June 20th, 2010% It has been a really long time since I ran five miles. It has been a really long time since I ran five miles without pain. I am happy t report that today I successfully completed a five-mile run without stopping and without pain. I am pleased!
Training is still going better than expected. Yoga on Monday nights has been a saving grace for my muscles and my mind, plus I’ve discovered a new love for lavender-scented oil (so relaxing!). My Tuesday and Thursday 3.5 mile runs have been good. I was really disappointed when my time started . . . → keep reading
By Amber, on June 19th, 2010% New Belgium’s popular Fat Tire Amber Ale has been a staple in my Dad’s beer fridge for as long as I can remember. I always tell people that I love Fat Tire because I grew up drinking it, which sounds really bad, but isn’t – no, my parents didn’t force me to drink copious amounts of beer as a child. I simply remember being curious about what in the world my Dad was drinking from that brown bottle and thus being allowed to sample a tiny taste (though, I also remember thinking beer was really “gross”).

By Amber, on June 18th, 2010% Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved the story of Peter Pan. In fact, as a child I used to watch the 1960s Mary Martin version endlessly (my Mom taped the show off the TV, and I believe she still has it on VHS! If only I still had a VHS player…). The idea of Neverland, the Lost Boys, and fairies has always delighted my imagination. And seriously, who wouldn’t want to fly off into the night: “second star to the right, and straight on till morning”?

By Amber, on June 15th, 2010% Now that summer is finally here, and the rain seems to be subsiding, I decided it was time I get my toes all pretty for sandal-wearing. I typically paint my own toes to save both time and money, but every now and then a girl deserves a little pampering! In my quest to support local stores, I made an appointment with Two Pairs Party Spa in Old Town Fort Collins.

By Amber, on June 14th, 2010% This past weekend was the 14th annual Taste of Fort Collins in Civic Center Park near Old Town. While the celebration lasted both days, Ian and I only participated on Sunday as the weather was a little better and the performance line-up was more enticing: Soul Asylum and the Gin Blossoms were slated to perform!
The Taste of Fort Collins, as described by the website, is “a Northern Colorado Tradition – a community celebration with family friendly activities that are perfect for the Northern Coloradoans’ active lifestyle.
