The Bean Cycle: Where coffee and bikes (and friends!) unite

I met my good friend Sarah for coffee and conversation at The Bean Cycle in Fort Collins. I heart coffee, and I heart Sarah (whom I call Sy-rah…like the wine)!

Sarah and I were long overdue for a coffee date. I really value my girl-time chats. I love my husband, don’t get me wrong, but I think it’s so important to make time for just the girls. Distance makes the heart grow fonder, right?!

It was early evening, so we both opted for tea beverages (I realize I just sung my praise for coffee – but it’s . . . → keep reading

Red Rocks Amphitheatre: a night with Rodrigo y Gabriela

To celebrate my mom’s birthday, we headed to Red Rocks Amphitheatre to enjoy some live music by guitarists Rodrigo y Gabriela. What a show! It was a perfect evening for an outdoor concert.

Red Rocks (2006)

If you’ve never been to a concert at Red Rocks, then you’re missing out on one of the greatest music experiences of all time, not to mention an amazing outdoor venue that is unique to Colorado. Artists from around the world covet Red Rocks as a must-play venue.

I try to make it to a summer concert or movie at . . . → keep reading

Weekly Training Update: And it’s done!

I did it! I ran (and finished) the Heart and Sole Half Marathon in Boulder this morning. Ian ran the 10k, and did really well!

My amazing friend Ashlee, from Blue Side Up Photography, drove up to Boulder to support me and document the race. I ran the race with my best friend Kelsey, who is training for a marathon, so the culmination of all my effort was just another training day for her!

Kelsey trains with a technique that I decided I really like: 20 minutes (or roughly 2 miles) of running and one minute of walking. Although I . . . → keep reading

Suehiro Sushi in Fort Collins: can I say, Buddha Roll and Mochi Balls!

Several weeks ago, Ian and I visited the new Suehiro in southern Fort Collins. (The original FoCo Suehiro is located in Old Town at 223 Linden Street.) When I first saw the new location, I had no idea it was connected to the one in Old Town. The new location is so modern and even has a little outdoor patio. Honestly, it looks nothing like a Japanese sushi restaurant from the outside. When we drove by the first time, the patio was packed with young couples, adorable families, and groups of friends laughing and chatting the night away. It was . . . → keep reading

Weekly Training Update: Home stretch!

I ran 10 miles today. Phew!

Despite my knee concerns last week, I didn’t have any knee pain today! Well, not during the run anyway. I kind of feel like an old woman because it’s so hard for me to get up and down (thank goodness there are no stairs in my house!). But I’ve been stretching and taking it easy today, so that has really helped.

It’s been a long, tiring week. Ian and I began the week with a super fun trip, but then I had to come home and work long shifts the next four days. I . . . → keep reading

Staycationing in Buena Vista: rafting, camping, and shooting stars!

In a last ditch effort to catch a quick trip before school rears up again, Ian and I joined a group of friends for a rafting and camping adventure earlier this week. Sadly (and much to Ian’s dismay), this was our first, and probably last, camping trip of the summer. Since I’ve been training, I haven’t wanted to miss my runs; anyway, running in the mountains at high altitudes isn’t my cup of tea. Plus, since I finally landed a job back in June, I’ve been weary of requesting too much time off. The economy is still tight, so I . . . → keep reading

[Guest Post] Buena Vista: 8,000 feet above average!

Today’s post, along with the gorgeous photographs, is courtesy of my good friend Ashlee over at Blue Side Up Photography. This is quite a special treat! Ashlee is a fantastic writer, a truly talent photographer, and an adventurous spirits who lives for the moment. I’m pleased as punch that she offered to do a guest spot on my blog! Plus, this post is a perfect introduction for my posts to come. We just got back from an awesome rafting and camping trip in Buena Vista with Ashlee, her husband, and a few other great friends! More on that later this . . . → keep reading

Weekly Training Update: two weeks and counting!

Knowing that I have exactly two weeks until I run 13.1 miles makes me both nervous and excited! I’ve worked so hard to make it to this point, and I hope I (or more accurately, my knee…) can hold out for another two weeks.

I am, however, happy to report that I [finally!] had a great training week! I got in all my workouts, runs, weights, and stretches! It feels really good to be back on track the final weeks days of training.

Also, I realize I’ve been complaining about being tired all…the…time. So, I decided it was time to . . . → keep reading

Friday Date Night in Fort Collins: Equinox Brewery, Old Town, and Streetmosphere!

While I was a full-time graduate student, Ian and I had a standing date night every Friday. This guaranteed that we would be able to spend time together, and see each other, at least one night a week (I was a BUSY girl!). However, once my schedule loosened up a bit, we lost touch with our Friday night tradition. And we both agree that we miss date night!

Thus, we’ve decided to reinstate our Friday date nights! I love having something to look forward to all week, and Friday night is usually filled with fun, local activities for us to . . . → keep reading

REI Garage Sale: deals and steals galore!

A few weekends ago, our local REI had a garage sale. You heard me (read me?) right! A garage sale! Every few months, our local REI, and REI’s across the state, offer returned or damaged items at hugely discounted prices. Get there early because people fight for this stuff!

The garage sale hours were 9am-2pm. I actually had to work the morning of the garage sale, so we didn’t get there until 1pm. It was very picked over (according to Ian who had stopped by earlier to scope it out). I was hoping to find a pair of hiking shoes. . . . → keep reading
