Training Update: I’ll do it my way!

The past few weeks I’ve been sort of training for my up-coming 5K. Mostly I’ve been focused on just getting out and running whenever I can. It has been challenging for me to consistently fit in workouts during the first few weeks of school (*please note that I refer to teaching as “school” rather than work!). But, with less than a month until my race, I’ve officially stepped up my game and started training.

I’m not following a specific training plan this time around. Instead, I’ve taken plans from the past and spun them into a plan . . . → keep reading

Fort Collins Bike Co-op

Way back when I was still training for the triathlon, my bike was really starting to become a hindrance to not only my training, but my short little commute to work (aaaahhh the days of riding to work in 10 minutes…). The gears on my bike were seriously struggling to shift from high to low and back again. As I’m slowly working to become a better cyclist, not just a leisurely bike rider, I’ve realized that one major key to successful training is shifting gears. Thus, I had a bit of a problem on my hands.

The Art of Spectating

Last weekend, during the wee hours of Sunday morning, Ian and I drove down to Longmont to support two dear friends as they competed in the Outdoor Divas Triathlon!

Lindsey and Stacey rocked the sprint triathlon! Lindsey graciously took my place after I injured my back and completed her very first triathlon. I am SO proud of her!

Stacey is a super rock star and no stranger to the race-world. She competes in a multitude of races during the year: half-marathons, sprint triathlons, Olympic triathlons, and relay races. She finished 60th out of nearly . . . → keep reading

Bohemian Nights at NewWestFest

Friday night Ian and I have a long-standing date night. We try not to make plans with friends or family so we can spend some quality time together. During the school year, date night becomes even more important to us because we rarely see each other during the week.

Rootdown Denver 2010

We’ve been in a bit of a date night rut the past few weeks, resorting to watching a movie at home and lounging lazily on the couch. While it’s nice to stay home and save money, we’ve both become bored with our Friday night routine. We live . . . → keep reading

Mountain Avenue Mile

Thursday night, Ian and I ran our hearts out in the Mountain Avenue Mile. The race supports the historic trolley that runs along Mountain Avenue. The one mile run is sponsored by local companies and is completely family-friendly. Plus, there is an awards celebration at the Rio after the race. What’s not to love?!

Packet pick up took place at the finish line on Mason and Laporte in front of the Larimer County Court House. Obviously, the start was a mile away, so racers had the option to run, walk, or ride the trolley to the start . . . → keep reading

The Sweet Burn of Firewater at Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey Distillery

My brother-in-law turned the big 3-0 on Friday. (Happy Birthday Ezra!) To celebrate, we toured his favorite Colorado distillery: Stranahan’s!

I’ve never visited a whiskey distillery mainly because I’m not a big fan of whiskey, but I had a blast touring Stranahan’s. Our tour guide was informative and hilarious and graciously answered all of our obnoxious questions (we’re curious people!).

Stranahan’s is the first Colorado-born whiskey (you know I love that!) and the company proudly totes the small batch label. They produce only twelve barrels of whiskey per week.
