Itching to Run [despite the snow!]

I’ve never really been one to run in the cold. Once snow hits Colorado, I tuck my running shoes deep into the back of my closet to wait until spring shines her beautiful, bright face.

But a familiar itch surprised me on Friday afternoon: the running itch. My friend Lindsey had emailed me earlier in the week about a December race in Boulder. My first thought was no way! December means snow, and for some irrational reason I have a fear of running when there is snow or ice on the ground. But I decided not to delete the email, . . . → keep reading

And the celebration comes to an end…

After a week-long celebration, I am thoroughly pleased with all my birthday festivities, but happy to return to life as normal. All play and little work can make Jane a tired (yet grateful!) girl.

The celebration culminated with a visit from my best sister-friend Kelsey and my 2-month-old “nephew” Declan.

Kelsey and I have known each other since the day I was born. Yep! You read that right! Our moms are good friends and Kelsey was actually at the hospital on my birth day 28 years ago. Thus, my birthday wouldn’t be complete without some quality time . . . → keep reading

28 Years Ago Today….

…I was born! May the birthday festivities continue! Today is my actual birthday (hooray!). And, as the grown up 28-year-old I have come to be, I did the very grown-up thing and took the day off. I figure I have flex days for a reason, and I rarely get sick, so I’d rather take a “health” day and enjoy myself. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect Colorado fall birthday!

The day began with a visit to the dog park, as usual. Just because it’s my birthday doesn’t mean I can deprive Ava of her daily ritual. She . . . → keep reading

A Birthday at the Breweries

This weekend marks the start of my birthday week. Yes, you read correctly – week not just day. In my world, birthdays are a long, jubilantly drawn-out celebration. The fun began in typical Fort Collins fashion: with good friends and local beer!

I arranged an epic birthday brewery tour on Saturday afternoon. The caravan started at my house where we donned pretzel necklaces and geared up for the big “event.” The birthday tour headed first to New Belgium, then continued on to Odell, and ended with a hop, skip, and a jump over to the Fort Collins Brewery. I have . . . → keep reading

Date Breakfast: A New Twist on an Old Classic

A date night that includes dinner for two at a nice restaurant can get pricey fast. Ian and I have a standing Friday date night, but sometimes we like to switch it up to keep things interesting and save a little dough. A few years ago, our friends Sarah and Keith introduced us to the concept of a date breakfast. Breakfast is usually one of the least expensive meals to eat out, and it’s really fun to start the day with a nice long meal for two.

Early this morning, Ian and I ventured over to one of our all-time . . . → keep reading
